Hi Everyone and thank you Hugh,
Please understand that the Australian Bosphere Volunteers Inc. has a
direct interest in this issue and would not bother you all otherwise.
ABV Inc. is a voluntary, inclusive, grassroots association that promotes
a national network of sustainable communities through the UNESCO Man
and Biosphere process.
Australia has some 16 wilderness biosphere reserves and perhaps 5
community based biosphere reserves.
ABV Inc members has been involved in founding 3 of them over the past 7
years- the Mornington Peninsula and Westernport Biosphere Reserve
Foundation, the Noosa Biosphere Reserve and the proposed Canberra
Biosphere Reserve with others coming into the biosphere process and
encouraging other commuities to do so.
The Mt Eliza Association for Environmenatl Care first suggested the
MP&WP BR in 1999.
About 1.5 million people now live in australian biosphere reserves with
awareness of that benefit growing.
The process begins with an individual member in a community association
suggesting the biosphere process option to sustain their community in
these difficult times.
The effective action starts with the individual recommending the
biosphere process at the grassroots and that generating engagement
throughout the community's government, business, cultural, scientific,
environmental, educational, sporting, health, communication and other
facets.
It can be a long, difficult, analytical and time consuming process, one
of learning for the community, but eventually an application is made to
the UNESCO Man and Biosphere Program and a Charter between the community
and UNESCO is approved.
The process cannot be stressful, scary, lead or owned.
But rather shared, intelligent and needs delegated.
It is then that the benefits become apparent and the strength of the
national and international network is discovered by the individual,
household, street and community.
It is something which you as individuals and associations may like to
examine further on the various biosphere websites.
ABV Inc thanks you for your time and understanding.
Craig Forster,
Secretary ABV Inc.
